What to do if You Think You Have a Poltergeist

Poltergeist Ghost Exorcism Enfield

Poltergeists (or Turbulent Spirits) have been recorded throughout human history. In earlier periods their actions were attributed to demons or witchcraft. Nowadays, debate still continues about what exactly they are. Some believe that they are genuine manifestations of the spirit of formerly deceased persons.

In some cases, poltergeists are able to communicate through writing, the use of Ouija boards, or by a system of raps in response to questions. In this way, a name and identity for the poltergeist is often established, but it is often not clear whether it is the identity of a real person, now dead, or a purely imaginative creation. The latter is usually suspected and most experts who have been personally involved in dealing with poltergeist cases are inclined to the view that poltergeists are not, in fact, objective entities at all, but are in some way external embodiments of the emotional disturbance of a particular person, usually an adolescent and often a female.

Signs You May Have a Poltergeist Problem

Typical signs of a poltergeist manifestation include: -
  • Objects moving around on their own (either in your presence or not)
  • Strange raps or bangings sounding somewhere in the house without any obvious cause
  • Writing appearing on walls
  • Stones or other objects being flung at people through the air with no clear perpetrator in sight
  • People being physically tossed around by something unseen
  • Strange odours manifesting without any obvious source
If these symptoms sound familiar to you, perhaps you have a poltergeist. Particularly if you have children in your family, however, you should make every effort to ensure that the phenomenon is real, and not simply the result of someone’s mischief. Even in classic cases, such as that of the Enfield poltergeist, there are still some who believe that, in reality, there was nothing going on except children playing pranks on their parents. Be sure and rule this out before you call in outsiders.

Dealing with a Poltergeist Problem

Once it has been established that you have a poltergeist, the obvious question is: what should you do about it? One option is simply to wait it out. Most poltergeists do not stay long. The average duration of a poltergeist experience is in the region of a few weeks. Rarely does it go beyond a few months. You will have to decide yourself how great the disturbance is. If it is no more than a few objects being shifted around, and an occasional stone being thrown at you through the air, perhaps it’s something you can easily put up with it. If it’s truly frightening or intolerable, however, you should seek help.

Exorcism

In the case of troubling hauntings, people tend to think first of calling in priests or ministers to perform an exorcism or give a blessing to the house. There is no harm in trying this; however, in many poltergeist cases, it has proven to be ineffective and, if the hypothesis that the poltergeist is not, in fact, an objective entity such as a demon or remnant of a real person is correct, there is no particular reason why a blessing or exorcism should be expected to work.

Bizarre though it sounds, in many cases success has been reported when a householder simply addresses the poltergeist directly, asking it to stop causing disruption in the house and to leave.

Counselling

Another option is to arrange for some form of psychological counselling for the person you believe is at the root of the disturbance. In some cases, this may be very easy to spot - perhaps there is only one young person in your family. If not, identifying the person responsible is your obvious next step. You can do this by having family members stay in places other than your house for a while. Perhaps there is an aunt or uncle who wouldn’t mind putting your children up for a week or a weekend. You can then see if the poltergeist phenomena cease once a certain person is out of the house, or even whether they manifest themselves at the other location.

Once the person who is the source of the disturbance has been identified, do not reprimand or blame them in any way. It is generally agreed that the phenomenon is entirely involuntary on their part, and they cannot consciously affect it in any way. The best thing to do is to arrange for a counsellor to speak with the affected person in confidence. If the emotional disturbance can be put to rest, the poltergeist may simply disappear.

Geomancy

Another option worth considering is geomancy. Geomancers claim to study the earth’s energies and the things which facilitate or hinder their flow. In some cases, they attribute poltergeist phenomena to disruption of the earth’s energies. This can have many causes, ranging from recent extension work on your home to the construction of a major road nearby. A geomancer may be able to make recommendations about what can restore harmony in the local environment.

Various societies exist to undertake research into paranormal phenomena such as ghosts and poltergeists. If you contact any of these, it is likely that they will be able to offer you assistance in some way, though be clear in your own mind, and make clear to them, whether your goal is to further research into a strange phenomenon or, in a more practical sense, simply to be rid of it.

Finally, a word of warning. Poltergeists are not always aggressive and frightening. Sometimes they even seem to be friendly. For example, in one case, workers in a factory had become quite comfortable with the presence of their resident poltergeist; and once, when a man said he needed a certain tool and started walking towards another room to get it, he found that it dropped out of the air right beside him, courtesy of the poltergeist. Usually, therefore, there is no need for you to be utterly terrified at the presence of a poltergeist. Do not be lured into spending thousands of pounds on charlatans or witch-doctors who promise to rid you of your problem. There are plenty of unscrupulous people around. If you need external help, you should be able to find it for free.

Hey guys.. I moved into this 2 and a half appartment about 2 years ago.. I have 2 kids, ages 12 and 4 .. So I gave my daughter the Main bedroom, my son the other room and I took the "dungeon" (as my Daughter likes to call it... (the Garage converted into a room) Anyhow.. All went well .. untill we were settleled in ... Then all Hell broke lose... I couldnt sleep in the Dungeon.. Had the most terrible dreams.. Things choking me, "killing" me, chasing me, hurting me etc... I started fighting with my Daughter over Nothing... Everything went SOUTH!! Anyhow.. I had my house cleansed, but still had the dreams... 2years later.... I no longer sleep in the "dungeon", took my boys room and put him in with his sister.. .. All was fine for a bit... I have sealed off the "dungeon".. We do not go in there for anything... My belief is that there is something seriously scary / Dangerous down there Who knows ??? All I know is EVERY night when I go to bed, I PRAY !!!!

Hello all. I recently had a bad break up and many unfortunate events that has happened. I ended up staying at my job which is a hotel. Needless to say I have moved. Strange things started to happen. Objects moving, there was knocking twice that I recall, lights getting really bright and then rim in a blink of an eye. I started recording these things to prove to others and myself it wasn’t all in my head. I have many videos and recordings. One is of my dress I laid on my bed and it caught my eye almost hovering over my bed but not completely in the air. Like it was vibrating. It had did it with my face mask also. Anything polka dots it likes to mess with. In a month period there was 6 nights I didn’t sleep because of the activity. It was horrible and driving me almost insane. Even my cat was showing signs of something different. Just the other day I moved out but I think it has followed me. Just this morning I hear things moving around And the cushions on the couch taking different form. I know I’m not crazy in that sense. I was hoping it was stuck to the location but I’m beginning to think it came along. My cat even sat staring at the other room out of a sleep he was having. I been working on my feelings and attitude once I researched enough to put a spirit group to it. I was thinking it was because of my family history of the Freemasons but I don’t think that now. I don’t know how to stop the manifestation of this. Hopefully it will leave at some point in the near future.

I've been aware of this poltergeist since last year, but it could've been active earlier than that as previously i lived in an abusive home where strange smell, missing items etc were daily event. its been causing me and my foster family harm since i moved in with them, and i need to get rid of it. I've made a sigil that means 'i am innocent' and it works for a short burst but is in no way a long term solution. Any advice?

I am not religious nor superstitious. However, I do enjoy horror movies. recently I went through something traumatic which changed my life. I am 18 years old and a female. In the past 3-4 months, things have been happening which I can't really explain. I have moments where I suddenly am uncomfortable and feel as if I am not alone when I am. bumps and stuff happen but that's most likely the wind or something. yet recently living at my apartment in the city I had my window closed almost completely and it was a windy day. I heard something from behind me in a whispery toned voice say "this isn't the wind". I came home cause of corona and isolation stuff and since I've been home at dinner a bag of goon (wine in a bag) which was sitting on the kitchen bench fell off randomly (the fan was on low and the bag is rather heavy) and a picture of me according to my mother fell from where it was sitting which had never happened before. all of these things happening in the span of 3 weeks. lowkey scared. please help me.

It started slowly. My husband and I were asleep and our guests were also. I was awakened by the front door slamming. I thought that was very rude of our guests to leave like that. The next morning as I was making coffee they greeted me and asked where we went last night. Other things were the hangers moving back and forth, belts jumping off hooks, Christmas decor turned upside down, the pvc pipes under kitchen sink taken off and laid down, curtains rising to the ceiling, 3 muddy toe prints on the bathroom floor climbing up the tub and wall and stopping at the ceiling, hitting me on the back while I was grading papers, and stomping down the hall when I was unlocking front door and scaring me enough to wait in the driveway for my husband. Do you think it's demonic?

3 years ago, in a previous condo, a very mischevious poltergeist was present .A diamond stud earring would be missing and then found, with the screw backing in place.Kitchen spatula found with cleaning supplies.Another time, my husband was in hospital, I had placed clean towels in the bathroom.Next morning, one of the washclothes was wet and wrinkled an not folded the way it hadbeen. Also , one evening there was a strong smell of lilacs. No flowers in the house and no lilacs in s Florida .Many other things happened and suddenly stopped when my husband was diagnosed with cancer. It is starting again. This morning my diamond earring stud is missing and an attachment on my iPhone charger is gone!!!!

My son and I just moved in with my brother back in May of 2019. We made ourselves at home in the basement quarters of the home and seems like since this move, things have gotten worse. I've always had a touch paranormal activity here and there.. but here lately things have been amped to the max to say the very least. It started very subtly, as I recall this just now. Knocking at the door randomly (me saying "hello" like an idiot and noone answering obviously). This occurred around September and ended abruptly in mid November. During this time, I would see a man in a hospital gown out of the corner of my eye.. looked like an old man? But I could never get a clear view of his face. I could only see his legs and the gown and that he was wheeling one of those poles around with him. Saw him twice this far and hopefully never again! Now, this next part is what all makes me think this is a poltergeist happening and not an actual "haunting". I over heard my son and my nephew playing minecraft one day and they kept complaining of being signed out for no reason. And sure enough they were. For no good reason! The controllers were still on, game functioning as normal, everything was fine. But for some reason, in the middle of them playing a game, they'd just be signed out. I even played myself just to be sure they weren't pranking me cause I like to play minecraft myself and the silly thing signed me out as well and still does! The weirdness unfortunately dosent end here. I was trying to play yet another game, and this time the screen was glitching out and showing what seemed to me to be a picture?? But it was so fast! So maybe this was just my imagination running wild.. I've played it several times after that and only had the same thing happen one other time after this. My son swears he never messed with his alarm clock, only to have his alarm clock wake him at 12 a.m. i forgot to mention also that my son is 13 and I did read that adolescent are prone to bringing these entities on. Though he is a boy, I'm sure there still could be a connection. I know I had my experiences when I was young and I do remember them well! I would like very much to forget some of them as they still bring about unpleasant feelings. Can you please help me identify if what we are experiencing is a haunting or a poltergeist?

Poltergeist – The Disappearing Cross by Keith Linder December 14, 2017Uncategorized Edit cross I will always remember the events of this day. It was the weekend that Captain America the Winter Soldier movie came out in the United States – April 2014 A month before this movie came out, my cousin flew down from Dallas TX and stayed with me and my girlfriend up near Seattle, WA a small town called Bothell. My cousin had been aware of our ghost sort of speak – meaning she knew just enough to want still to come. To be safe, she bought a cross with her, a gift for me and my girlfriend. Hopefully, this cross will protect us. Written on it were the Chapters Joshua 1:9, Phil 4:13, Psalm 28:7 and Matthew 19:26; each verse spoke about maintaining one’s strength, one’s faith during troubling times. My girlfriend and I had been having strong poltergeist-like activity so reading something was extremely helpful. When my cousin arrived she handed me cross; we prayed over it and placed in our bedroom. That’s where my cousin said it would protect us.“Keep it above your bed in your bedroom.” A month later, the cross went missing. Understand missing objects (religious objects especially) is not a new phenomenon in our house.Things get taken all the time.Sometimes they return; sometimes they don’t. The items that do return are never found in their original spot. This cross would be no exception. The question my girlfriend and I ask ourselves when an item such as this goes missing is, what the heck is going on? I mean we’re talking about a sizable cross her.Six inches long, four inches wide. It’s not something you can misplace. How could we? We nailed high above our bed, on the wall. It’s gone now. No use looking for it, only two people is living in the house. My girlfriend and I fast forward to the premiere of the Captain America movie. It’s Saturday morning. The cross has been missing for over a week now. I began doing my laundry early that day, earlier than usual. I figured its best to get my chores done if I’m to go to the movies later on. I’m excited. I’m going to see a Marvel movie with one of my best friends. Let me get this laundry done ASAP. I began my first load of laundry: colored clothing. My girlfriend, Tina, is walking around the house doing her own thing. I decided to go to my office and watch TV and wait for my clothes to wash. About an hour later, I noticed something peculiar. My first load of clothing was still washing. Now I know there are long wash cycles, but this was weird – my brain knows how long it takes for my clothes to wash. I’m pretty sure I didn’t set the washing machine to the long wash cycle. It’s taken exceptionally long this time. That’s unusual. I glance toward the washroom, hoping to hear the beep. You know the noise the washing machine makes when it’s done. So I glance at the washroom and look at the clock on my computer. I think to myself what’s taking my clothes so long to wash.A few minutes

Just recently We’ve moved into a new house, apart from a complete dread of our back hallway it was perfect. Come springtime we started experiencing odd events; garland falling down repeatedly, deer head thrown off the wall, trails of sweet smelling water with random unexplainable beginnings and endings, three taps on windows at night and random scratches on the wrist and necks of family members. It had been the water that really creeped me out, leading to finding this article. My best guess to what’s going on is that due to extreme stress and emotional issues within the family right now are being lashed out; if that isn’t the case then I have no clue as to what this could be
Gáagít - 27-May-19 @ 7:18 AM
In the past year, I started hearing voices around the house. Calling my name or asking for me however either no one was present or someone told me no one was asking for me. Sometimes I could hear my parents fighting downstairs however one was sleeping and the other was working and there was no possible way they could have been fighting. In this year I had a weird 3 am experience where I made physical contact with this being. Since then doors have been slamming objects being thrown on the floor. And more and more sounds coming from in and around the house. Could this be a poltergeist and if so what can I do about it?

I’ve recently moved into a new home with my 2 young children and cats, in previous homes I have sensed and seen figures which has never bothered me as there is no ill feelings, but since moving into the new home one of the cats has gone feral like and wasn’t before, but the strangest thing has to be the slices of half eaten toast that are appearing as I have no toaster find this a little unnerving and strange, all door locks where changed before we moved in and attics searched, alarms set when No ones home
Jwren - 15-Aug-18 @ 1:24 PM
I have a poltergeist problem here where I live. I have kinetic abilities ever since my near death experience when I was 15. I'm a medium, I can communicate clearly with the dead without use of ouiji boards and whenever a subject of the afterlife comes up, I seem to know about the subject extensively. I recently moved into a building that I was told had ghosts. I soon experienced this ghost multiple times, it threw stuff from areas no one could reach, and haunted our thoughts making me and my wife dwell on subjects that cause us to get angry and short tempered easily. It made itself clear and told me that I am like a light in the darkness, my ability to communicate from the other side is like a beacon that makes me stand out and it would continue it's mischief unless I agreed to communicate for it. There have been strange deaths here even before we moved in one case a guy was found on the roof decapitated, after we moved in the old man across from us slipped in the shower and broke his neck, the neighbor next to him died of a asthma related heart attack around the same time the neighbor across from them almost died of a stroke and is now disabled. All were in good health and out of the blue but all connected in small ways. I am a man of faith and have successfully preformed an exorcism before but this I think is above that. I have discovered that the poltergeist was not alive once but was born from a mesh of energies around it and people dying in its vicinity whatever the circumstances the mesh of energy created a life force pattern that is the building itself, kinda. Please any advice on how to approach this entity would be most appreciated
John - 12-Apr-18 @ 10:57 PM
I have a poltegeist. Cushions are thrown. Cans are stacked in pyramids on the kitchen counter overnight. Pennies drop from nowhere. Black handprints on the walls appear. I live alone. I can't sleep. What is happening? I need a rational explanation for this before I lose my mind. I have lived in the house 10 months. It is a relativily new build and I am only it's second tenant.
Scared - 23-Mar-18 @ 1:07 PM
I got the full experience in a rented house I lived in. Feeling of being watched and someone else in the room, my phone would disappear and its battery would drain and I would look all over the house for it, once I found it on top of a cupboard and it was very hot. Waking up with scratches and bitemarks in the morning, I would see puddles of water on the ground, sometimes also drops on the wall or on door frames, computer xbox screen switching off, hot/cold icy chills, cupboards and drawers half opening by themselves, once my apple peeler disappeared only to reappear back in its original drawer with the drawer half open, another time I was salting a salad and felt like someone got scared away, once I was writing with a pen and spaced out only to read that my hand wrote “hello” on the paper. It is as though they dislike certain activities to be carried out in certain places (respect them?). I think these poltergeists feed off of fear and negative energy and want to feel they dominate and control the place, they seem to become active with humans that have had a tormented past. Once in a bout of negative mental confusion (which they also seem to stimulate and foster) the poltergeist which looked like a man tried to throw me down the apartment window (lost psychic control of myself), but on another occasion it totally defended me from some intruders in the house (in both cases I saw puddles on the ground and smelled odd odours)... after leaving the house the mental confusion started to dissipate and now I’ve overcome some things from my tormented youth and eventually I found out a man died by ?suicide? jumping down the window of that apartment. It is crucial for you to remain calm and in control of yourself in the house, and positive, no matter how hard that may be, I remember it was also very hard for me to meditate and relax in that place, so it may be good to learn your lesson and move out, it is as though deep down I knew about it after a while but did not realise it, I suggested the poltergeist to ascend a staircase to the sky, but I think poltergeists don’t want to leave in a peaceful way and I didn’t want to force it to do so, hopefully one day the poltergeists are able to free themselves and ascend.

It all started with us recording our youngest playing and an unknown voice saying,"yeah", in the background when we played it back. Since then we've had noises, shadows, something walking down the stairs and across the landing scratching the walls as it goes. Things have moved and lights come on by themselves. I've got a recording of a man saying, "Move out", when I was on my own in the living room with the TV off. My youngest was asleep and the eldest were in their rooms. I hope it goes away because telling it to go away only lasts for a day or two. Help

I think i have a poltergist. The sink turns on by itself, my belongings are in places no one in my family can reach, there are weird markings on the wall like a hand being dragged across the wall but it is invisible unless you look at it in a strange light. My dresser drawers open on their own sometimes and i can feel something is off it feels thick and dark and evil.

Weird things have been happening in my house ever since I've moved in. The most concerning things have been a kitchen cupboard door slamming repeatedly which me and my friend both heard. My daughter woke me up in the early hours of one morning saying the TV downstairs kept turning on and off. My two year old son often speaks of a monster in his room that sits on his bed. He is well spoken enough to hold a conversation and despite wanting to think this is his imagination I get a strong instinct what he is describing is real. Yesterday after walking around my damp kitchen floor I noticed there was other footprints alongside mine. Strange looking ones that I can only describe as the ball of a human foot with long pointed toes almost claw like. I deliberately stepped right next to one of the weird looking ones to compare my own footprint, determined I could make my toes into that shape and it must of been me. The difference was so undeniable I took a photo of it.

@jacob(15yearsold) - there will be a rational explanation to this. Have you been watching too many scary movies? I can't watch them without feeling their is something lurking in my house or me or one of my family have been affected.

so my sister recently moved back in our house and the first week we saw nothing but today i looked on my indoor security camera and my sister was sleeping in the living room and she does not like to have any fans on so i know its not a fan that did this but at exactly 3 AM a brand new unused dryer sheet flew like a paper airplane perfectly strait up and i say it was unused because we keep our dryer sheets in our garage so there is no way that it was a fake and i have the video and everything so i think my sister brought something in the house

There has been. Something following me and my family. Phones mysteriously going dead as if someone touched it. The phone flew out of my girlfriend's hand and the kids keep describing a man with no legs. Things come up missing. And reappear and places we haven't been. We have moved in and has followed. And it goes by the name Timmy. I believe there is total of 3. I have also caught some weird things on camera. That looks like Holograms. Please email me as soon as possible. We need some type of help

@Pabz - there are so many unexplained happenings in life. I believe you, but if only you saw it, then you will never really know for sure whether your brain is playing tricks on you. Having a back-up of someone else helps - but still because the experience is so fleeting, and it only happened once it's hard to pin it down. Scary though.........Jas

I was brought up as a Catholic made to go to church with my parents every weekend but now as an adult I always tended to lean towards non religious theories to explain all matter of things, except I can't explain this. On 25/03/2017 at about 11pm whilst just settling down to play on my PS4 after the wife had gone to bed and my two children where sleeping upstairs, I noticed one of their school shoes left in the middle of the room with out being put away. It was on its side and had been since it was left their. There's nothing that could have moved it. But it did. As I was about to play my game right in front of my eyes it slammed on to its sole the right way up. I froze and stared in disbelief at what I had just seen so clearly. Trying to disprove how it could have moved like it did with out anything around it. Nothing like this has happened to me before and we don't live in a very old house about 1960's and have lived here for 10 years with nothing happening.Immediately I went to tell my wife in shock. This is why I've arrived on this page because I went about doing research trying to disprove that it was anything paranormal. But the only things I have come up with is that it was either a spirit or poltergeist, maybe some form of energy. Or is it something to do with our brains tricking us that we don't yet understand? I know that if you stare at a black dot on a screen for a time before a black and white picture is flashed up in front of you your brain sees the image in colour. So effectively your brain is tricking you. Could this also be the case when you see something move that should never move unless moved by something or someone. Like when most of us have seen something out of the corner of our eyes move or appear and you dismiss it as nothing? Or is it only certain people? Or is it really a ghost? I know I can't explain it as it was as clear as day what I saw.
